Egypt’s ECPP Workshop Fosters Agri-Food Packaging Changes

Egypt’s Export Council for Printing, Packaging, Paper, Literary and Artistic Works (ECPP) successfully hosted a pivotal workshop on sustainable packaging on 27 January 2026.

The event, held at the council’s headquarters, brought together key industry stakeholders to tackle the challenges and opportunities in the development of circular packaging solutions.

The workshop was part of the CircuPack programme – an initiative partnered between Cairo-based venture capital firm Averroes Ventures and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Egypt – which aims to accelerate the development of sustainable packaging solutions in Egypt’s agri-food sector by fostering innovation, building the capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and encouraging partnerships between various stakeholders.

The workshop was attended by several prominent figures, including Sara Ibrahim, Executive Director, ECPP; Donia Tawakol, Climate Policy Officer, Embassy of the Netherlands in Egypt; General Atef Abdel Rahman, Executive Director, Chamber of Printing & Packaging Industries of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI); Mohamed Elwazeer, Trade Services Manager, USAID Trade Reform & Development in Egypt (TRADE) Project; Dr. Ahmed A. Alsharif, Founding Partner and CEO, Averroes Ventures; and Sana Sherif, Program Coordinator, Averroes Ventures.

The workshop addressed key themes, including the availability and quality of raw materials, recyclable design, operational barriers, Extended Product Responsibility (EPR) requirements, and opportunities for collaboration with food exporters and brands.

The workshop underscored the sector’s commitment to embracing green production and reducing waste, building on a foundation of significant export growth. Key takeaways emphasised data-driven decisions and continuous improvement, and encouraging local companies to invest further in research and development and smart packaging technologies. This proactive approach aims to maintain the Egyptian packaging industry’s competitive edge in the global market.
