Abu Dhabi’s Language Centre to Rev Up Arabic
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is participating in the 17th edition of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Book Fair in Egypt with a series of events and meetings.
The book fair, which continues until 28 July at the state-of-the-art library, is held in collaboration with the General Egyptian Book Organization and associations of Egyptian and Arab publishers. Under this year’s theme ‘Awareness and Building Humans’, the book fair includes 75 cultural events with over 300 speakers.
The centre’s participation in the book fair is in line with its commitment to reviving the Arabic language, finding solutions hindering its widespread use in the Arab region and the world, and exchanging experiences and ideas for promoting Arabic as a language of art, culture, and science.
ALC’s agenda for the book fair includes holding a series of meetings with various authorities connected with the Arabic language and culture. In a special session on the ‘Problems and Challenges of the Arabic Language’, ALC’s Chairman Dr. Ali bin Tamim addressed the five main challenges faced by the Arabic language including language issues among its natives, Arabic teaching through its various stages, the chaos in translation and terminology, lack of strong digital presence, and creativity.
