SALPAC Optimises Output with New BOBST NOVACUT 106 E

Algerian printing and folding carton converter SALPAC Emballage has invested in a new BOBST NOVACUT 106 E Autoplaten die-cutter as part of a €2.5 million modernisation programme launched in 2025. In a rapidly evolving F market where demands for quality, lead times, and competitiveness continue to increase, the company is utilising the entire investment plan to update its production capabilities, increase market competitiveness, and fulfill rising demands for manufacturing quality and speed. The installation further strengthens a long-standing technological partnership with BOBST that began in 1968.

Founded in Béjaïa in 1967, SALPAC serves demanding sectors, particularly food and beverage, FMCG, and pharmaceuticals, where die-cutting consistency, precision, and reliable lead times are critical requirements.

Meeting High-Demand Market Challenges

Die-cutting represents a key lever for competitiveness. SALPAC needed to handle growing production volumes while reducing downtime and ensuring consistent output quality. The choice of the NOVACUT 106 E proved to be the logical response to these challenges, by offering an effective balance between converting performance, flexibility, and cost control.

Positioned in the high value-added die-cutting segment, the BOBST NOVACUT 106 E features advanced automation and production stability designed to maintain consistent quality at high operating speeds. Initial performance data from SALPAC’s deployment confirm significant gains, including productivity increases of between 20-30%, combined with a 25% reduction in makeready times, and approximately 15% fewer machine stoppages, indicating a tangible improvement in the overall efficiency of the die-cutting line.

Beyond pure performance, the hardware transition also impacted material efficiency. Improved die-cutting precision reduced waste by around 10% while increasing production repeatability, addressing ongoing market cost pressures and resource optimisation requirements.

The machine installation was supported by BOBST’s technical teams, which was essential in securing the rapid ramp-up of the equipment and ensuring efficient adoption by production teams.

Marking Nearly 60 Years of Collaboration

The long-standing presence of BOBST equipment within SALPAC’s machine park illustrates a relationship that began in the late 1960s when SALPAC first acquired a PCR 880 high-speed folder-gluer and an Autoplaten SP 900 die-cutting press. The manufacturing facility was gradually modernised with more recent equipment, including a NOVACUT 106 E installed in 2013, followed by the arrival of the new-generation NOVACUT 106 E in 2025.

SALPAC has also expanded its folder-gluer capabilities with solutions such as the VISIONFOLD 110 and the AMBITION 76. The technological continuity, covering both die-cutting and finishing, reflects a strong and long-term partnership with BOBST.

Strengthening Market Position

Today, with the commissioning of the new NOVACUT 106 E, and more broadly through the investment plan launched in 2025, the company is equipping itself to support its customers’ evolving needs while preparing to seize new business opportunities.

For Khaled Akouche, Chairman and CEO of SALPAC Emballage, this investment marks a logical step in the company’s development journey: “Our partnership with BOBST is built for the long term and represents a key driver of our growth. With the NOVACUT 106 E, we are significantly improving our converting efficiency while further strengthening our quality standards.”
