DIPA ’13 Recognizes Excellence in Print Industry

There were a lot of ‘new things’ visible at the 7th Dubai International Print Awards this year. A change of venue, newly designed trophy and additional award categories were major highlights this year. Held on April 9th at Madinat Jumeirah (Johara Ballroom), the event saw the participation of more than 500 printing industry professionals from around 8 countries. More than 400 entries from eight countries were scrutinized by the eight jury members during the past few days. A total of 77 winners across 26 categories have been awarded with 26 Gold, 26 Silver and 25 Bronze trophies.

Ahmad Al Shaikh, Managing Director of Modern Printing Press and former chairman of the Printing and Publishing group was honoured with the ‘Personality of the Year’ award during DIPA’13. Mazen Haj, Chairman of PPG in his address said, “The founders of PPG believed that with persistence and hard work you can always achieve your goal. I can proudly say that it’s true on the completion of 10 years of PPG and 7 years of the formation of DIPA. Despite all the obstacles and hardships and the economical challenges faced by the printing industry, we have managed to survive.”

He added, “Printing is an innovative and broad industry that can always invent an alternative. The consumer market is growing and so is the packaging sector. The label market is also on the rise and commercial jobs are increasing. Outdoor media and stationary jobs were never affected, in fact it is emerging. Therefore there’s no need to fear, we just need to follow the trend and be creative all the time.”

Mentioning about the details of DIPA ’13, he said, “We were able to maintain the number of entries and the number of participating countries as of last year. We had a significant increase in the number of competing companies, 46 printing houses and 6 new companies enrolled for DIPA ’13 and I believe that this is an achievement. We had an impressive number of high quality entries this year, and I would especially like to thank all of the judges, who had a tough task in selecting our winners, as all entries were worthy of recognition.”
