Sharjah Book Fair Welcomes Booker Prize & IPAF Winners

Award-winning authors and other renowned faces from the literary and cultural fields will be participating in the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2022 to be held at the Expo Centre Sharjah from 2-13 November, 2022.

The highlight will be the participation of Indian novelist and the 2022 International Booker Prize winner Geentanjali Shree for her book Tomb of Sand. The award-winning book is an English translation done by Daisy Rockwell of Shree’s 2018 Hindi novel Ret Samadhi. In 2022, Tomb of Sand became the first Hindi-language novel shortlisted for the International Booker Prize and subsequently went on to win it.

Libyan author, writer, and freelance journalist Mohammed Alnaas, who is interested in alternative Libyan stories, is another literary figure who will be participating in SIBF 2022. He is the first Libyan and the youngest author to win the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) for his debut novel Bread on Uncle Milad’s Table. The author says that his novel was inspired by his own foray into bread-making.

Quantum Healing Indian-American author Deepak Chopra and American cartoonist and animator Lincoln Peirce of Big Nate fame are among the other leading names to grace the event.

More than 120 cultural figures will be participating in the fair including Egyptian author Ahmed Mourad, Moroccan poet and former minister of culture and communication Mohammed Al-Ash’ari, and Emirati writers Asma Al Hammadi, Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Khulood Al Mualla, and Sultan Al Amimi.

Notable Italian authors Alessandro Baricco, Francesca Corrao, Luigi Ballerini, and Viola Ardone will also be making it to the book fair where Italy has been chosen as the ‘Guest of Honour’ nation.

The 41st edition of the annual event, held under the theme ‘Spread the Word’, is organized by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and is the world’s largest book fair attracting over two million readers and publishing professionals from all over the world.
