Syrian Print and Media Workers Convene

Trade unions in Syria held their annual conferences, including the Syndicate of Printing, Culture, and Media Workers at the governorate workers union amphitheater.

Workers in Syrian print and media emphasized on the need to facilitate the procedures for obtaining a salary advance, purchasing clothing for workers by the department, and disbursing vacation allowances to those who did not take it because of the nature of their work.

The workers also demanded the necessity of adjusting examination fees and compensation, holding information sessions for workers, and amending the social assistance fund in proportion to the living conditions.

The recommendations emphasized the need to find a mechanism that would do justice to the work of school employees, conclude annual contracts to cover vacancies for rural schools, consider printing as a dangerous profession and include it within the parameters of compensation for dangerous professions, and grant the basic requirement of a nutritional meal and protective clothing designated for this profession.

The head of the union office, Nidal al-Khatib, reviewed the report submitted during the conference which threw light on all the activities and ambitious plans carried out during the past year, which impacted work in a positive way, thereby improving the worker’s conditions, and benefitting the country and its citizens.

The importance of holding these annual conferences was also stressed upon by the head of the Labour and Economic Sub Bureau, Muhammad Rabie Al-Nabhan, to enhance the positives while avoiding the negatives, and at the same time calling on workers to make an extra effort in the reconstruction stage.

The head of the Aleppo workers union, Mustafa Wazan Adelbi, explained that these conferences represent the struggles of workers, irrespective of their unions, in order to evaluate their past and develop plans and visions for a brighter future with investments that benefit the workers.

Dr. Louay Shashati, head of the worker’s office in the Aleppo University branch of the party, indicated how they are striving to provide better working conditions, justifying their rights and demands.
