Misr Edfu Paper Company to Raise Paper Production

Mohamed Abdalla, Chairman and Managing Director of Misr Edfu Paper Company, revealed the company’s plan to raise the volume of production in 2022 to 60,000 tons of printing paper and kraft, an estimated increase of 20 thousand tons over last year.

During an inspection tour of sugar factories in the Aswan governorate, Abdalla spoke of how the Edfu paper factory was forced to suspend operations for almost two years due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy, including the paper industry. Operations commenced on March 2021 as per the directives of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade , with the company’s share amounting to 35% of the local market last year, with a targeted production volume of 75,000 tons by 2023.

The Edfu unit produces printing, writing, and kraft paper through bagasse pulp and imported wood pulp, with the addition of other chemicals. The factory has an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of bagasse pulp, producing about 60,000 tons of paper, with a daily output of around 250 tons.

He elaborated that nearly 20% of the total production of 40,000 tons in 2021, were exported to China, Turkey, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, and Sudan through local distributors in those countries. He also expected an increase in the volume of exports during 2022.

The company’s ownership is distributed between Egyptian Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (ESIIC) (45%), Misr Insurance Holding Company (20%), National Investment Bank (15%), and Banque Misr and Misr Life Insurance Company (10% each).
