DEWA’s R&D Centre Promotes 3D Printing with New Patent

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the registration of a new patent for an adhesive device for 3D printers. This is the seventh patent registered by DEWA’s R&D Centre. The device distributes the adhesive material on the 3D printing plate, ensuring that the printed material sticks securely to the build plate, thereby effectively eliminating 3D printer bed adhesion problems.

DEWA’s MD & CEO HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized that this achievement support’s the authority’s efforts in developing advanced infrastructure using additive manufacturing. DEWA uses 3D printers to produce prototypes and spare parts for its distribution, generation, and transmission divisions, and to support the digitization of its inventory.

“The R&D Centre supports innovation in all production and operational areas, becoming a global platform to enhance the services and operations of all its utilities’ divisions. DEWA’s 3D printing projects are widely recognized by utilities worldwide. The R&D Centre’s efforts are part of the pioneering Dubai 10X initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which envisions a Dubai that is ahead of the world by 10 years. The initiative is also in line with the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy, which aims at making Dubai a global hub for 3D printing technology by 2030,” says Al Tayer.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, adds, “The R&D Centre has enriched the scientific community with specialized research and by developing the capabilities of the research team. Consequently, this has enhanced Dubai’s position as a global hub for research and development in energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, smart grid technologies, and capacity building in these areas.”
