Doomscrolling Printing News

Here is the news. We all love to read bad news. I always kind of knew this but the habit, turns out has some science to back it up. Actually, there is also a word for it as well: doomscrolling. Based on study conducted during pandemic feeling of depression and anxiety drive us all to consume Covid related as well as other bad news. The practice seems to be endlessly gratifying.

During 2020 majority of people around the world spent huge amount of time browsing Internet and searching particularly for bad news so much so that the Oxford English Dictionary named doomscrolling word of the year, and even added it to the dictionary.

For us who are living in printing verse doomscrolling also has become a soothing habit. We may be telling ourselves that we’re staying informed, but there’s something deeper at work when we find ourselves constantly scrolling through social media and bad news headlines. This is our defense mechanism at its best to battling depression and anxiety.
