Central Bank of Egypt Reports Increase in Printed Money

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has reported that the volume of printed money increased January 2022 to reach 753.6 billion Egyptian pounds (EGP), compared to EGP 747.8 billion last December.

A report issued by the Cairo-headquartered monetary authority indicated that printing and issuing money in Egypt accounted for 11.38% of the GDP in January 2022, compared to 11.29% in December 2021.

CBE announced that it printed EGP 504.2 billion worth of the 200 pound currency, EGP 202.04 billion of the 100 pound denomination, and EGP 292.215 billion of the 50 pound in January 2022; compared to EGP 501.33 billion, EGP 199.7 billion, and EGP 283.34 billion respectively last December.
