Al Hayat Stops Publishing its Print Edition in Cairo, Beirut, and London

The Arabic language newspaper Al Hayat stopped publishing its print edition in the UK, Egypt, and Lebanon on Thursday after a thirty-year run. Dar Al Hayat, the publishing and distribution company that owns Al Hayat said that readers will still be able to read PDF copies of the newspaper via its website.

Previously, Al Hayat reported on its front page details of meetings held by Dar Al Hayat’s board of directors on March 27 and 28, 2018. Members of the board discussed developments in audiovisual media that have led to a drop in income from adverts and a shift from print to digital publications.

Dar Al Hayat has undergone restructuring and its Dubai office will combine human and financial resources to provide content for the company’s high-quality paper and digital products. The company added that the international and Saudi Arabian editions of Al Hayat can be read online through its website and that the rights of its employees will be protected according to the law of the country in which they work.

Al Hayat (which means “life” in Arabic) was founded by Kamel Mrowa on January 28, 1946 in the Lebanese capital Beirut. It was relaunched in 1988 by Jamil Mrowa and Adel Bishtawi, in London under Saudi Arabian ownership.
