Egypt Boosts Printing and Packaging Exports
Sara Ibrahim, Executive Director of Egypt’s Export Council for Printing, Packaging, Paper, Literary and Artistic Works announced the start of a training programme for 30 companies, divided equally between the packaging and chemical sectors, in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on 12 March, 2022. This is done as part of the Izdihar programme that aims to accelerate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the printing and packaging sectors.
She added that 18 companies were trained this week under the Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) project which is funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The project aims to increase exports of SMEs in some industrial sectors and train them on ways to tackle obstacles that affect competitiveness of exporting companies.
Nadim Elias, Chairman of the Export Council for Printing, Packaging, Paper, Literary and Artistic Works and President of the Chamber of Printing & Packaging Industries of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI), announced that the sector targets $1.2 billion in exports by 2025.
He added that the Export Council seeks to maintain a constant rate of increase in exports by 10% during 2022, noting that the sector’s exports jumped by more than 50% to reach $900 million in 2021.
The Chairman also pointed out that the boom achieved by the sector during 2021 may not see a repetition in the coming years, and the focus is on achieving a balanced growth annually in sectors including books, publications, paper, flexible packaging, and cardboard.
