Cairo based Egyptian Lebanese House recently launched “Press Editing Arts in the Digital Age” by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Al-Ahram newspaper’s veteran journalist. The 238- page book is part of Media Library series and comprises of nine chapters.
The author explains in the book that the tremendous advances in information and communication technologies have introduced new journalistic forms to the arts of press editing in the digital age, and those who enter in this profession are asking for trouble. They have to learn new skills, especially in the fields of investigative journalism, data journalism, content verification, and the production of journalistic work that combines text, audio and video.
The book also deals with the art of news writing, communication, journalistic investigation and investigative journalism, editorial skills and requirements, the effects of the digital revolution as well as the electronic means that emerged from Internet.
In his introduction to the book Muhammad Yunus writes:” This book contains the rules and techniques of the art of journalistic editing as well as the knowledge that originated them both from theoretical and practical points of view. This combination of theory and practice did not come out of nowhere, but rather it is the outcome of nearly forty years of my experience as a journalist. I studied journalism during my undergraduate studies at the at Cairo University and then delved into it during the postgraduate stage (masters and doctorate) as well. I have taught journalism in a number of Egyptian and Arab universities, while practicing it for more than 3 decades in the most ancient newspaper in our Arab
Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is an academic researcher and journalist at Al-Ahram. He has published more than ten books in fields of journalism, religious discourse, and the environment, including “Paper and Electronic journalism in the Arab Gulf states” and “Emirates Journalism from hobby to Professionalism.”
