Sihl Unveils On-Demand PE Films for Digital Labels

Sihl, a speciality coatings manufacturer for the digital label printing industry, has expanded its facestock offerings with the introduction of a new polyethylene (PE) base film portfolio with an aqueous (AQ) inkjet coating. The innovative portfolio delivers a groundbreaking print-on-demand (POD) solution for PE labels. The portfolio expansion by the Swiss company offers maximum flexibility and opens up new, future-proof possibilities for the label industry.

The new PE films are characterised by their adaptability by molding to curved surfaces and contours to deliver a crease-free finish. The labels remain smooth and intact even if containers are deformed or squeezed. The low rigidity of these films makes them ideal for small labels on containers with a small diameter, clearly outperforming the properties of conventional BOPP or PET.

The new coating portfolio brings aqueous inkjet printing to PE films with four specialised coatings. The lineup consists of the IHG1 Gloss Coating for high print quality and maximum product appeal, the IG1 Satin Coating for an elegant satin finish, the water- and chemical-resistant ZM1 Matt BS5609 for demanding outdoor applications, and the IM1 Matt Universal for a variety of indoor applications.

Sihl’s new mono-material product line aims to help the label industry comply with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). By combining a PE label on a PE container and POD inkjet technology, the portfolio is positioned to offer a sustainable and long-term solution for manufacturers and brands.
