Sharjah to be Guest of Honour at Seoul Book Fair 2023
The Emirate of Sharjah will be the ‘Guest of Honour’ at the Seoul International Book Fair 2023 as part of expansion into the fields of cultural diplomacy and trade that champions Sharjah’s visionary cultural project launched and led by HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
As the guest of honour, Sharjah will showcase a vibrant cultural programme with seminars and discussions; heritage arts and crafts of the UAE; and Emirati songs, shows, and a variety of other art forms highlighting Arabic culture. The delegation from the emirate will also include a team of highly distinguished Emirati writers, publishers, and artists.
Commenting on the achievement, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) Ahmed Al-Ameri says, “Not a year passes by without Sharjah recording a new milestone in its cultural project launched by HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, that introduces global cultures to our rich history and shines on our contributions to human culture through arts, science, and philosophy.”
He added that the ‘Guest of Honour’ status conferred by the Seoul International Book Fair 2023 is a celebration of the achievements of the UAE in reinforcing the role of knowledge as a key factor in national advancement and prosperity. “It is also a celebration of every Arab writer and publisher who has contributed in expanding our cultural identity at local, regional, and international levels,” explains Al-Ameri.
Launched in 1954 and upgraded to an international book fair in 1995, the Seoul International Book Fair is one of the best known book fairs in Asia bringing together a diverse gathering of writers, publishers, artists, scholars, editors, and readers with the purpose of sharing knowledge and information. The international book fair provides South Korea, a nation globally recognized for their scientific advancements and world-class infrastructure, with an ideal platform to highlight its contributions to the publishing industry and promote the openness and multicultural values that are deeply rooted in South Korean culture.
