Egypt’s Printing and Packaging Exports Jump Sharply

The Export Council for Printing, Packaging, Paper, Literary and Artistic Works in Egypt announced an increase of 65% in the sector’s exports during the months of January and February this year, to record a value of $198 million as against $120 million, during the same period in 2021.

The monthly report issued by the council showed that the packaging sector’s exports increased by 55%, to record a value of $105.9 million, compared to $68.2 million during the same period last year.

Export of cardboard increased by 32% to $6.9 million as against $2.2 million. Flexible packaging export registered an increase by 37% to reach $67.3 million, compared to $42.5 million, while plastics export witnessed an increase of about 36%, to record $22.8 million, compared to about $16.8 million. Export of jute packaging and packaging bags (cloth) increased by 32%, to record $8.9 million, compared to $6.7 million.

The report added that the sector’s export of paper and all paper products during the first two months in 2022 recorded an increase of 79% to reach $90.4 million, compared to $50.5 million during the same period last year. Books and publications export recorded an increase by 35%, to reach $5.6 million, compared to $1.6 million.

Nearly five countries made up 47.7% of Egypt’s exports in the sector, topped by Sudan which accounts for 11.6% with a value of $23 million followed by Libya with $21 million.

Egypt’s exports of printing and packaging to Britain and Northern Ireland amounted to $15 million, followed by Morocco with $14 million. Italy is ranked sixth with exports worth $13 million, followed by Saudi Arabia with $9 million. Exports to the US ranked tenth, amounts to a total value of $7 million.
