The 31st edition of the Doha International Book Fair, one of the region’s oldest and largest international book fair, will be held from January 13-22, 2022, at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center (DECC), the sprawling, modern convention and conference center, located in the heart of Doha’s business district.
The event is organized by the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center (QCHEC), affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Following the tradition introduced since 2010 of inviting a country as a guest of honour, the United States of America (USA) has been selected for the upcoming event as part of the Qatar-USA Culture Year 2021.
The slogan for the 31st session, “Knowledge is Light,” emphasizes the importance of knowledge and reading. “Knowledge is the basis for individual development and the society as a whole,” says Maha Mubarak Al-Mohannadi, Head of the Sponsorship and Communications Committee and Administrative Officer at QCHEC.
Director of the Doha International Book Fair, Jassim Al-Buainain says, “Knowledge is the basis for the progress and development of countries, and contributes to the development of the individual and society as it lights the way for students and guides interactions among individuals.”
Al-Buainain also spoke of how the book fair would bring students, researchers, and avid readers together in a platform where books from different countries around the world and in multiple languages, would contribute to advancing the pace of learning in the community.
Jawaher Al-Bader, Head of the Cultural Committee at the Doha International Book Fair, says the book fair, in line with its slogan, would conduct seminars and workshops focussing on the importance of science and learning. According to her the book fair will also feature a section devoted to children.
