A powerful range of new digital print production systems for unlimited colors

What’s the significance of the brand name ‘Meteor Unlimited Colors’?

As a world leader in digital printing and finishing equipment, MGI Digital Technology provides groundbreaking and value-added solutions for the graphic industry. We have beenrepresenting MGIsince 2006. And have sold various products which always are unique with new innovations. The ‘Meteor’ name was given for their multi-substrate digital printers, which they introducedin our market with Meteor DP 30 pro, 40pro, 60pro, and later DP 8700, 8700 XL plus and DP1000.  During drupa 2016,MGI introduced the newiFOILT unit option for the Meteor DP 8700 series presses, hence transforming to unlimited colors printability.

Meteor Unlimited Colors XL+ is a powerful range of new digital print production systems. It features the MGI Meteor DP8700 XL+ digital press fully integrated with MGI’s award-winning iFOILT module to create inline printing and hot foiling solutions that go far beyond a simple 5th or 6th color.

Who is the target customer? What are the new applications and revenue opportunities for PSPs offered by this press?

The Meteor Unlimited Colors XL+ system uses a 100% digital process to create new types of color palettes. This unique printing press and post press foiling system completely eliminates the cost and need for die-making and traditional make-ready setup times and waste. A wide variety of standard market foils – and colors, patterns and designs – can be used to create brilliant (and highly profitable) special effects. Paper formats supported from 110×220 mm to 330×1200 mm (13×47″).

The target customer could be anybody who needs flat foils, envelops with complex logos with foil, marketing material, metallic effects on book covers, banners, foil on business card, post cards, cartons, box samples, all supporting full personalization and VDP and many more.

Print Service Providers (PSPs) and converters are now able to produce output with a virtually unlimited number of colors via the blending of CMYK toner and the reflective qualities of foil – including a rainbow spectrum of hues with metallic, glitter and holographic effects.

Authentication Hologram Digital Printing (AHDP), a MGI exclusive and patented system, produces on-demand a imprints with Meteor Unlimited Colors presses, specially-formulated toner and foil films. The digital holographic effects offer customized security authentication options at a mere fraction of traditional costs. This powerful anti-counterfeiting method is now economically accessible without the need of expensive dies and lengthy tooling processes. AHDP also works in conjunction with variable data printing (VDP) to create unique document identification application.

The cost of production is very low interestingly, which means digital printing cost plus cost of foil, andMGi’s Meteor series of presses are well known for their very aggressive per page print cost and adding cost of foiling, which is just the standard cold foil mostly available in the market.

Where’s the immediate demand for features such as color gamut expansion?

The new Meteor DP8700 XL+ has major enhancements to color fidelity and rendering because of a new toner and the new Fiery RIP FS100 Pro. The toner uses more components from biomass, i.e, from vegetal sources, which reduces environmental impact, and melting at a lower temperature requiring less electricity to print. The toner uses denser dyes and smaller and more regular particles for larger gamut and delivering richer tones and colors.

During production, the color stability is continuously monitored with on-board spectrodensitometers. The external calibration is ensured with EyeonePro provided as standard. Furthermore, it allows for color management optimization and allows you to create your own color and substrates profiles.

Thanks to the new Fiery RIP FS100 Pro, all printed files are processed under the latest industry standard ISO Fogra39-12647.  The color management is improved and the color produced is similar with other printing devices (offset, plotter, flexo) that are compliant with this standard.

What are your sales projections for this press in 2017-18?

We are already in discussion with several customers, hoping to sell 3 to 5 presses by 2018.
