GEW Launches AeroLED for Narrow Web Printing Market

UK-based manufacturer of UV curing systems for printing, coating, and industrial applications, GEW (EC) Limited has launched a new product tailor-made for the narrow web printing market. AeroLED, its latest UV LED product introduced early this year, is a fully air-cooled, high-power UV LED system for full cure, printing, coating, and converting applications up to a width of 60 cm.

With a unique concept and innovative design, AeroLED delivers power, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, eliminating many operational problems in existing air-cooled LED systems in the market. In its first, significant innovation in air-cooling process, the AeroLED system allows cool, filtered air to be distributed from a single centralized fan sited away from the press and the exits through the UV lampheads for a quiet and reliable operation. The remote positioning of the fans also avoids common problems caused by dust ingress and ink mist, while large air filters reduce the filter replacement cycle.

AeroLED features the same LED chassis and core components as LeoLED lamphead, GEW’s previous system known for its proven reliability. AeroLED’s efficient optical design makes the system the lowest energy user among all GEW products, delivering energy savings at a range of 50-70% compared to conventional UV Arc systems. Along with reduced operating costs, printers upgrading to LED are able to free up a significant level of their mains capacity, which can be utilized to install new machinery to boost production capability. Two AeroLED systems, in comparison, have a lower electrical supply requirement than a single conventional Arc UV system.

Highlighting the ease of installation for customers considering a retrofit upgrade, Robert Rae, GEW’s Managing Director Sales says, “As AeroLED has GEW’s familiar E2C cassette design, upgrading an E2C system with RHINO/RLT power simply requires a switch to AeroLED lampheads with an additional fan filter unit, while all other components remain the same. Retrofit upgrades can be done in as little as one day, making AeroLED the world’s most cost-effective route available to LED printing.” Rae adds that though the cost of a complete upgrade may seem a bit competitive for those who are new to GEW products; benefit from energy savings and increased productivity that LED systems bring to the press pays for itself, typically, within a couple of years.

With Industry 4.0-approved, IoT remote monitoring set as a standard, AeroLED uses GEW’s RHINO power supply and control range for reliability. “UV LED has become an essential technology for the present day, driven by the recent and dramatic increase in global energy pricing, unprecedented demand for low-cost energy, sustainable LED solutions, and improved ink technology and availability. The opportunities are huge and we are convinced that LED will soon become the dominant technology in our narrow web market,” summarizes Rae with an air of optimism.

GEW (EC) Limited has a world-class production facility at its UK headquarters, subsidiaries in Germany and the USA, and an extensive network of worldwide distributors.
