ENOC Group Goes 100% Free of Single-use Plastics

The Emirates National Oil Company Group (ENOC) has announced a ban on the use of single-use plastics throughout its operations including at its headquarters in Dubai, consistent with the UAE’s vision to consolidate a comprehensive green economy approach.

Implementing a gradual ban on the use of single-use plastics since March 2020, ENOC today has achieved a 100% single-use plastic free environment throughout its business units and completed its original commitment made two years ago. Since 2020, the group has prevented approximately 14 tons of plastic waste from entering landfills and saved more than 400,000 dirhams by eliminating single-use plastics.

In line with the company’s commitment to promoting sustainability across its network of operations, the single-use plastics that have been banned across ENOC’s network include straws, cups, single-use water bottles, plastic shopping bags, plastic bottle caps, plastic lids, food wrappers, stirrers, and take-away containers made of foam. The company has switched over to more sustainable alternatives such as paper bags, wooden straws, and water dispensers with reusable bottles and recyclable caps. Additionally, ENOC has also reduced its consumption of paper.

Group CEO Saif Humaid Al Falasi says, “At ENOC Group, we are proud to support the UAE’s commitment to promoting sustainability throughout. Building on our leadership position in the energy sector, we recognize the importance of adopting sustainability best practices throughout our operations, including eliminating single-use plastics. And since ENOC’s decision-making is based on the principles of corporate social responsibility, we constantly strive to be a role model for various institutions to emulate to make a positive mark on societies.”
