Dr. Mohammad Farahat Wins NAPIM’s 2024 Pioneer Award

Dr. Mohammad Farahat, Director of Sun Chemical’s Novel Device Laboratory, has been awarded the 2024 Printing Ink Pioneer Award by the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM). This prestigious accolade recognizes individuals who have dedicated over 20 years to advancing the printing ink industry through their work with ink companies, suppliers, and contributions to industry organizations, production clubs, and committees. The award also highlights technical innovations in fields like laboratory work, engineering, production, and product development.

Dr. Farahat joined Sun Chemical in 2004, initially focusing on brand protection solutions. His expertise in material science, optics, and chemical sensors quickly propelled him into leading the Novel Device Lab, a cutting-edge initiative that blends electronics, machine learning, and product development. Over his tenure, Dr. Farahat has secured multiple patents, showcasing his ability to deliver innovative solutions to complex industry challenges.

One of his significant achievements includes the development of Sun Chemical’s SunScreen technology, which enables real-time measurement of coating thickness during production. This breakthrough has not only reduced material waste but has also dramatically improved print quality and consistency.

Dr. Farahat holds a Ph.D. in photochemistry from Boston University, as well as a master’s degree in chemistry and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The award was presented at NAPIM’s 2024 Annual Convention and Technical Conference, held on October 1st at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Farahat joins the ranks of numerous Sun Chemical employees recognized for their significant contributions to the industry over the company’s 200-year history.
