CMS 2026 Munich: Focus on AI, Real-World Solutions

The global colour management community is preparing for the 10th Fogra Colour Management Symposium, scheduled to take place in Munich on 25 and 26 February 2026. Under the theme ‘Matching colour–Matching people’, the event promises a fresh concept focused on practical relevance, expert exchange, and the integration of cutting-edge innovation, including a live artificial intelligence (AI) battle.

Hosted at the Holiday Inn Munich City Centre, the symposium marks a significant milestone for Fogra, the research institute for media technologies. The biennial event has become the leading international forum for addressing challenges and opportunities in an increasingly digitalised and automated production world, bringing together around 200 industry professionals from around the globe.

Practical Focus and User Experience

A cornserstone of the 2026 symposium is its emphasis on real-world applications. All 21 presentations will be delivered exclusively by users, offering firsthand insights into practical solutions, unique workflows, and best practices straight from the field.

Dr. Andreas Kraushaar, Fogra Head of Prepress, highlighted the ongoing importance of colour management in a digital and automated production environment, emphasising the symposium’s goal to provide practical solutions that advance standards while remaining directly applicable.

Topics covered will span key areas of modern colour management, such as addressing customer expectations in the digital age, colour management in packaging and industrial printing, the role of proofing for complex materials, and the integration of High Dynamic Range (HDR) into printing technology.

Live AI Battle and Networking Opportunities

A notable event will be a live ‘AI Battle’ where human and AI-supported design will be evaluated for their visual results under realistic conditions, offering a practical demonstration of AI’s potential and limitations.

Networking opportunities are also includes central to the symposium. An exhibition will showcase innovative technologies from 16 industry exhibitors, including companies like Barbieri, BenQ, Esko, GMG Color, Hybrid Software, iQIP, Konica Minolta, and X-Rite.

The event also a keynote address by Alexandra Gerhardy of Muster-Schmidt, who will explore the 100-year history and future development of colour standards, and an evening get-together for informal networking.
