Benchmark For Smart Cities

Dubai aspires to become a benchmark for Smart cities of the future, says a top official. “Together with our partners, we are enabling Smart economic conditions, driving entrepreneurship and global competitiveness that will serve as a model for emerging nations. We are continually reviewing and refining the latest technology innovations, from mobile apps to drones, to understand how we may adopt these tools to make city experiences more seamless, safe, efficient and impactful for all,” says Dr Aisha Butti Bin Bishr, Assistant Director General of The Executive Office and SmartDubai Taskforce leader.

Dr Aisha adds that Dubai has begun to collaborate with leading public and private organisations to meet the needs of all residents and visitors through a connected and responsive citywide infrastructure.

Based on an article written by Mujeeb Rahman in AME Info the Smart city project encourages cooperation between the private and public sector, focusing on areas such as life, transportation, society, economy, governance and environment.

The authorities launched the Smart Dubai Initiative to support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for Dubai to become the Smartest city in the world.

According to Frost & Sullivan, by 2025, the global Smart Cities market will reach $3.3 trillion, with nearly half of the world’s 26 Smart cities arising in emerging markets including the Middle East.

It is expected that connected Cloud technology, such as mobile apps, e-government, drones, 3D printing, and robotics, will form the foundation of the region’s rapidly-growing Future Cities.

Experts anticipate that the fast-growing Cloud market in the GCC, which is estimated to grow from $118.5 million in 2014 to $668.5m in 2020, will support the region to become a global driver in innovations connected to the Internet of Things (IoT).

“IoT extends across many verticals in the technology industry and is shaping up to be the key enabler of smart cities”, says Alaa Dalghan, Director of Middle East and Africa for IoT firm B&B Smartworx.

This year’s GITEX Technology Week features the next generation of FutureCities technology solutions in drones, robotics, 3D printing, and transportation.
