Canon Demos Customer Routes to Success at FESPA 2018

At FESPA 2018 (Messe Berlin, 15-18 May 2018, Hall 3, Stand A40/B40), Canon Europe is showcasing its extensive range of solutions focused on print and marketing service providers (PSP/MSPs). This is to help them diversify their applications portfolios and boost productivity, guiding customers on the many potential routes to success.

Canon’s latest developments in digital wide-format production, supported by extensive applications expertise, is aimed at inspiring FESPA visitors to explore new creative product opportunities and maximise productivity to meet rising customer demand.

With capacity expansion high on the agenda for most wide-format PSPs, Canon is demonstrating several important innovations to help customers increase productivity, manage growing job volumes and meet ever tighter customer deadlines.

Following its launch last year at FESPA 2017, the high-speed Océ Colorado 1640 roll-to-roll printer featuring Canon UVgel technology is shown in a prototype inline print-and-cut workflow with technology from Canon partner Fotoba, demonstrating Canon’s commitment to boosting customer productivity by streamlining end-to-end processes.

Taking process automation a significant step further, Canon is also demonstrating a fully robotised flatbed print-and-cut workflow. This links the Océ Arizona 6170 XTS printer with the Océ ProCut cutting table using robotic technology integrated by Canon’s specialist partner, Rolan Robotics. The solution, which reflects the real implementation created for Canon customer Van Vliet Printing, enables 24/7 unattended printing for a range of high-volume flatbed applications.

At FEPSA 2018, the robotised system is shown producing high-quality packaging. Daniel Van Vliet, Owner, Van Vliet Printing, is at the Canon stand to speak openly to visitors about the benefits of robotisation and Jeroen Meier, CEO, Rolan Robotics, is available to talk about the development of the tailored solution and how it can help PSPs operating at high volumes to accelerate production.

To show how visitors can achieve further workflow efficiencies, software partner ONYX Graphics is at the Canon stand to show the next major release of ONYX workflow software for consistent colour management and process control. The new product, which is compatible with the Océ Colorado 1640 and Océ Arizona series printers, is the most significant update since the 2013 launch of ONYX Thrive.

For customers seeking higher productivity for technical wide format print applications such as CAD drawings and GIS maps, the new Océ ColorWave 9000 delivers consistent print speeds of up to 11.5 A0 or 16 A1 pages per minute and is designed to work with a range of workflow solutions to optimise process efficiency.

In addition, the DreamLabo 5000 inkjet production photo printer is demonstrating one-pass colour printing, with automatic double-sided printing for high-speed production of premium quality photo books.

At FESPA 2018, Canon is also sharing several new solutions designed to help customers diversify into new markets by extending their applications portfolio. A highlight is the launch of the new Océ Touchstone elevated printing solution, which works with the Océ Arizona 1200 and 2200 series flatbed printers to deliver eye-catching effects such as surface textures and embossing for printed décor, POS and packaging applications.

Live on the Canon stand, Océ Touchstone is being shown with the Océ Arizona 1280 GT producing a range of textured effects on decorative panels, embossed effects on folding carton packaging, and raised layers on clear acrylic for illuminated POS displays.

Visitors can see the versatility of the Océ Colorado 1640 roll-to-roll printer for applications from posters to self-adhesive graphics, as well as the Océ ColorWave 700, which prints on coated and uncoated media for a range of products from posters to banners and wallpapers. The imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and TX4000 large format printers are producing photo and fine art prints as well as POS materials and posters, including a demonstration of a new waterproof Canon media for outdoor use.

The imagePRESS C750 small format digital press can be seen producing personalised gift boxes and folding cartons as well as long sheet promotional applications, illustrating a potential business development opportunity for FESPA visitors already active in promotional print.

This broad spectrum of digitally printed décor, graphics, promotional and packaging applications comes together in the integrated launch campaign for the ‘Elemental’ beauty brand, devised by Canon to demonstrate how PSPs can work hand in hand with brand owners and creative professionals to execute seamless campaigns that build immersive retail experiences, maximising consumer engagement and motivating purchase.

On the Canon stand at FESPA 2018, visitors can see how it is possible to create a unified customer journey from home to street to store, using targeted personalised direct marketing collateral, outdoor and in-store graphics, signage, retail décor elements including bespoke wall coverings, floor and window graphics and furniture, and customised promotional packaging.

Using its own PRISMAdirect web-to-print and workflow management software, Canon is demonstrating how retailers and consumers can interact with the brand and how the production of print materials can be automated using a range of output technologies.

In addition to the many retail décor applications featured within the Elemental campaign ‘walk-through’, FESPA visitors can see a vivid example of the creative and commercial potential of digital print for interior décor, in a room-set of décor applications created by the recently launched Norwegian interior design brand ‘Dusty’. Dusty takes advantage of Canon imaging and wide format printing technology to digitally capture, reproduce and customise heritage interior designs on a range of contemporary materials. The FESPA 2018 Dusty showcase includes digitally printed vinyl flooring, wallpapers, acoustic panels, mirrors and plywood, showing how entire interior design concepts can be realised using digital technology.

Canon’s business development programmes help customers implement new applications, delivering them to their end customers competently and profitably, while also supporting customers to drive sales and market their capabilities for sustained revenue growth.
