Enterprise office solutions provider Y Soft has launched the YSoft be3D eDee (eDee) – a single solution for managing both 3D and 2D (paper) printers. Specifically designed for education, YSoft be3D eDee is a networked, desktop 3D printer with print management, workflow process and accounting, integrated with the YSoft SafeQ print management, workflow and accounting solution. The YSoft SafeQ platform integrates print management and document capture workflow for both 3D and 2D printers and includes a mobile app for secure printing irrespective of the printer brand.
The eDee is aimed at helping educational institutions manage 3D printing processes for students and account and charge for services. According to Y Soft, eDee’s print management tools solve the following unique challenges: as a networked resource, the 3D print fleet needs to be controlled and managed. Unlike 2D printers, print jobs cannot be queued or redirected if the printer is busy. 3D printed jobs cannot be easily reprinted or marked as ‘favourite’, and print queues cannot be shared. Other challenges include an understanding of the total time/3D material cost per print job; access control/door locks to prevent the object being taken or the print job stopped by another student; and efficient workflows to access available 3D printers or easily reprint a 3D object.
