UPM Raflatac has launched new swatchbooks for wine, spirits, beverage, and premium labeling applications. Available in both compact and larger formats in the EMEIA region, the swatchbooks provide printers, brands, and designers with a practical tool for evaluating label materials based on texture, color, and aesthetics.
“Swatchbooks play a key role in material selection by offering both a visual and tactile reference,” says Stefano Pistoni, Senior Manager, Business Growth, Wine and Spirits Label Solutions at UPM Raflatac. “The aim was to create a functional and intuitive resource tailored to the needs of industry professionals.”
The swatchbooks feature UPM Raflatac’s SmartChoice™ range, which includes paper and filmic solutions designed with sustainability in mind. These materials incorporate recycled content, renewable resources, and resource-efficient alternatives. QR codes within the swatchbooks provide detailed product information. Some of the featured solutions include:
- Carbon Action PP UCO – An ISCC PLUS-certified bio-circular face film containing 30% renewable content.
- Forest Film – A wood-based plastic label material with ISCC certification.
- Ocean Action – A certified label material developed to address ocean-bound plastic pollution.
- Drops WSA PCR-FSC – A textured paper made from 100% recycled fibers.
The swatchbooks were developed in collaboration with design agency Maba and printing company Grafical. Their input helped ensure that the final product meets both functional and design expectations.
“The design of the swatchbooks draws inspiration from UPM’s Finnish heritage and Nordic landscapes, reflected in organic shapes and nature-inspired elements,” says Carles Anadon, Senior Manager, Business Growth, Consumer Label Solutions at UPM Raflatac.
