UAE and Argentina Join Hands in Copyright Protection

The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association (ERRA) has signed an agreement with the Centre for Reprographic Rights Administration of Argentina (CADRA) to enhance cooperation in copyright protection and creative rights of authors and publishers.

The agreement, signed by ERRA’s President Dr. Alyazia Khalifa and President of CADRA Luis Quevedo, includes mechanisms for cooperation between the two sides in which each party shall, on behalf of the other, grant a licence to use the rights of member authors and publishers in order to enhance the cultural exchange between the UAE and Argentina, and promote creative content.

Dr. Khalifa emphasised that the agreement’s primary aim was to provide libraries in the UAE with works of Argentine authors, and in return, introduce Emirati authors and publishers to Argentine culture. She also stated that it was in line with ERRA’s activities and initiatives that aim to build bridges of communication with international copyright organisations, as well as introduce its practices and scope to all authors and publishers, regionally and globally.

“At ERRA, we work with our partners to build a community that serves to increase interest in developing the creative industry and preserving the rights of content creators. We do this by creating an innovative and progressive environment, protecting the intellectual property of authors and publishers, and encouraging content creation and dissemination,” adds Dr. Khalifa.

ERRA, the first-of-its-kind copyright management association in the region, was created to ensure that the copyrights of Emirati content creators including authors, publishers, and visual artists are protected through appropriate laws and legislations. The non-profit organisation plays a pivotal role of taking up the responsibility of monitoring and enforcing rights and collecting and distributing royalties to the rightsholder, motivating authors and illustrators to provide creative content, and encouraging publishers to invest in cultural and creative industries without fear of incurring losses due to illegal practices such as piracy.

Founded in 2000, CADRA is a non-profit civil association that collectively protects and manages copyright in Argentina, made up of authors and publishers, both Argentine and foreign, and at the same time ensures that users can legally access, use, and share texts.

Both, ERRA and CADRA are members of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), an independent non-profit membership association, which has over 150 members drawn from more than 85 countries around the world.
