Tehran Book Fair Promises an Amazing Literary Experience
The 34th edition of the popular Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) will be held in Iran’s picturesque capital city, opening doors for swarms of avid readers and book lovers from all around the world. The much awaited book fair, considered the biggest in the Middle East, will be held from 10-20 May, 2023, at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla. “The Future is Readable” is the motto of this year’s book fair.
In a recent press release, Ali Ramezani, the book fair’s deputy director, revealed that over 3000 foreign and Iranian publishing houses and over 200 major bookstores in Iran have applied to participate in the fair. ‘Various committees, publishers, and bookstores have taken all measures designed to organize an amazing fair this year,” says Ramezani.
The international section of the annually held fair aims to introduce Iran’s rich publishing industry to an international audience, to enhance cultural exchanges in the global scene, and to lay a groundwork for communication between Iranian and foreign publishers.
The event also serves as a platform to discuss issues and solutions related to the global publishing industry by exchanging views among authors, translators, publishers, cultural institutions, literary agencies, and other stakeholders invited to participate in the book fair’s international section.
Tajikistan has been named the guest of honour at TIBF. Tajik Culture Minister Zulfiya Davlatzoda will attend the book fair along with a large number of the country’s writers and cultural figures. Yaser Ahmadvand, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, who is also the head of TIBF, expressed his hope that the choice would help improve literary exchanges and commercial trade of books between Iran and Tajikistan.
