Silber Druck, the Lohfelden-based brochure printers, has invested in two Müller Martini systems – a Primera PRO saddle stitcher and an Alegro perfect binder – to automate their finishing process.
‘WECOME TO SILBER DRUCK – THE BROCHURE PRINTING COMPANY’ is emblazoned in capital letters on the website of the family business founded in 1965 and specialising in brochure, magazine, and catalogue printing. Since setting up a web shop for customers, Silber Druck’s focus shifted from perfect binding to saddle stitching, which now accounts for around 60% of production volume.
Need for Quick Job Changes
Silber Druck prints up to 50 different jobs a day – mainly offset – for customers in the three German-speaking countries of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. With print runs averaging between 2,500 and 3,000 copies and the pain point of converting finishing systems accordingly at frequent intervals, prompted the German company to invest in two new state-of-the-art solutions from Müller Martini to replace the ageing, second-hand Stitchmaster ST450 saddle stitcher and the Eurobind EB 4000 perfect binder.
Investment in Cutting-edge Technologies

The Primera PRO, which runs at 14,000 cycles per hour, significantly shortens the set-up and throughput times for jobs, increasing profitability. Other innovative features include Motion Control technology that guarantees fast and error-free set-up processes, fully-automatic three-knife trimmer, and a large touchscreen with redesigned visualisation for context-dependent displays and standardised user guides.
The Alegro satisfies the high requirements in offset and digital printing in print runs of all sizes with its innovative drive and control technologies. The highly flexible machine concept allows for fast configuration adjustments for the successful handling of almost all production requirements. Separate drives, reproducible order data, and possibilities for integrating into a workflow system not only guarantee short processing times with low production costs for books, but also more capacity for additional productions.

In addition to the quick job changes, which require only minimum manual intervention, the format variability of the Müller Martini systems worked in favour of Silber Druck’s requirement. Both machines were personally inspected by Lucas and Nicklas Silber, before finalising the deal, which took place immediately after drupa 2024. While the Primera PRO is in operation, the Alegro will start production in March.
“With the two new machines, we are strengthening our position in the market because we now have significantly greater production reliability for sensitive delivery dates,” emphasises Lucas Silber.
“We also wanted to send a signal to our employees that we believe in the future of the printing industry and our company,” adds Nicklas Silber.
