The world’s first Publishing Free Zone will be established in Sharjah UAE for promoting and encouraging culture in UAE. The announcement was made at a banquet held on the sidelines of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival at Sharjah. It is one of its kind initiatives in the public sector that is expected to boost the cultural activities and publications in the region.
The establishment of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) was also officially announced during the event by Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad al-Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council of the UAE and ruler of Sharjah.
The SBA has been entrusted with the responsibility of encouraging investment in the creative industries and offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people from different countries and cultures. This initiative will definitely boost the publishing industry where writers, poets and publishers will receive necessary encouragement and incentives. Sharjah, the cultural hub of UAE which nurtures the best writers and poets in the region will benefit significantly with this effort.
