Sharjah Research and Innovation Park Embraces Industry 4.0

The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park is working to develop an integrated work system for companies and industries in the Emirate to promote innovation in a number of sectors, including autonomous vehicle technologies, the oil and gas sector, medical sciences, smart manufacturing and other industries, which have witnessed global changes, in recognition of the fact that additive manufacturing or 3D printing enables to highlight the features of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

Three-dimensional printing was developed in the eighties of the last century, and it is one of the manufacturing techniques, where the pieces are manufactured by dividing the three-dimensional designs for them into very small layers using computer programs, and then they are manufactured using three-dimensional printers by printing one layer over the other until the shape is formed Final.

This system differs from molding and sculpting systems, which waste more than 90% of the material used in manufacturing.. 3D printers are usually faster, more economical and easier to use than other technologies for manufacturing.

And 3D printers allow developers the ability to print complex overlapping parts, manufacture parts from different materials with different mechanical and physical specifications, and then assemble them with each other.

According to His Excellency Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Complex, 3D printing adds a lot to the global manufacturing process, and companies must innovate and adapt to this technology, while noting that 3D printing has proven its vitality at an early stage in the global pandemic. Says he, “Sharjah is considered an incubator for the largest number of industries in the country, and it was necessary to work on developing a technical system to support this vital sector and prepare for smart transformations and readiness to benefit from them in the optimal way so that the emirate, through the Sharjah Research Park, would become an effective testing center for the experience and application of technology, and a pivotal center for a network A global group of developers and researchers to support the industrial sector and move it into a future industry.”

According to industry experts, the global 3D printing market is set to reach $52 billion by 2027, and the healthcare industry is one of the sectors that will make significant gains from this technology as a result of the increasing application of 3D printing technology in it.

During 2019, the complex attracted international companies specialized in the construction of buildings using 3D printing techniques, as the first house with a heritage architecture was built on the complex’s land using this technology, which is one of the latest technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution related to construction in cooperation with the most prominent companies that own this technology in the world.
