Saudi Media House Al Yamamah Press Goes Fully Digital

Al Yamamah Press, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading media organisations, will permanently cease the print editions of Al Riyadh, its daily Arabic newspaper, and Al Yamamah, the weekly cultural and political magazine, on 24 August 2026, marking a complete transition to digital-only publishing.

This historic shift concludes decades of physical print journalism for both iconic publications, which have long documented the cultural and social evolution of the Kingdom. The move reflects a broader global shift as traditional media adapts to a fast-paced digital world.

Al Riyadh launched its inaugural issue on 1 May 1965, growing from limited pages into one of the country’s most prominent daily news sources. Its sister publication, Al Yamamah, released the first issue of the magazine in August 1953.

Moving forward, the establishment plans to deliver all content exclusively through websites, mobile applications, and digital PDF formats to align with modern reading habits and rapid transformations in the global media industry.

This complete move away from paper is not a sudden choice, but the final step in a digital plan started years ago. Al Yamamah Press previously built up its online presence by launching Riyadh Today, the digital-format English publication. With smartphones and social media delivering real-time news, traditional media groups are rapidly adapting their publishing, content distribution, and advertising strategies.

While 24 August 2026 marks the final distribution of physical print editions, the media organisation confirmed that its core news brands, titles, and editorial coverage will remain fully operational across digital platforms rather than closing operations. Management also emphasised that this shift will not impact its editorial standards or its commitment to maintaining journalistic quality and reader trust.
