Saudi Cos. Partner Tetra Pak for Sustainable Food Package

While packaging plays an important role in the global food delivery system, helping keep food safe, nutritious, and available for people around the world, it can also deplete finite resources and lead to waste with hundreds of millions of single-use containers and cans discarded each year.

In this context, leading food packaging and processing company Tetra Pak has taken up the challenge of developing truly innovative and sustainable food packaging that revolutionizes the market and plays a pivotal role in environment protection.

Tetra Pak has partnered with Saudi companies Obeikan Paper Industries (OPI) and Saudi Top Plastic Factory (STP), two of the industry’s leading recyclers, introducing  state-of-the-art recycling equipment with increased carton collection and recycling set as goals of a collaborative investment of over Є3 million.

Tetra Pak’s food packaging is manufactured solely using renewable and recycled materials, fully recyclable, and carbon-neutral to reach its goal called “Go Nature, Go Carton.”

The Swedish giant uses 70% of its paperboard made from renewable wood fibers as food packaging solutions. While the company demonstrates considerable advancements toward decarbonisation in its roadmap, tiny layers of aluminum and plastic, both of which are essential for maintaining food safety, have been used.
