Bankrupt Dutch SMG Group Puts Entire Inventory for Auction

The Netherlands-based SMG Group, declared bankrupt in June, has put its entire inventory up for online  auction via Troostwijk Auctions, Europe’s biggest B2B auction house.

The printing company with around 80 employees has been active in printed communication since 1952. The company traded under the names Drukkerij Schuttersmagazijn BV, Schuttersmagazijn, SMG Groep, SMG Print, and SMG Druk.

The business was hit by a fire in April 2021 causing considerable damage to its machinery. Following the fire, several investments were made, including a Komori litho press. The 316 lots listed for auction include a 2014 model Komori Lithrone GL840P, a Bacciottini Group creasing and folding machine, a Heidelberg Stahlfolder folding machine, a Duplo cutting machine, besides various plastic pallets, pallet trucks, a humidification installation, strapping units, several office inventories, and much more.

Troostwijk Auctions said that bids can be made until tomorrow (23 August), when the auction will close at 10am CEST (9am BST). A viewing day at the company’s Hasselt site was also undertaken this morning.

In a separate auction of 74 lots, pieces of art from SMG Group’s bankruptcy, including works by painter and printmaker Anton Heyboer and musician and painter Charles Lagendijk, and various screen printing works by Picasso, Ton Schulten, and several other artists are being offered. This auction will also close by 10am CEST tomorrow.
