Peter Dahmen’s Paper Sorcery Pops Off the Page!

Pop goes the paper! If you’ve ever dreamed of your sketchpad springing to life like a magician’s hat—ta-da!—then welcome to the wonderful, whimsical world of Peter Dahmen, the undisputed wizard of pop-up paper art. Teaming up with the equally paper-obsessed folks at Poposition Press, Dahmen is unleashing a glorious book-shaped spectacle called Pop Up Sculptures, and it’s about to fold, unfold, and refold your perception of paper forever.

Who Is This Paper Wizard, Anyway?

Born in 1967 (yes, paper was already invented), Peter Dahmen has spent decades turning the humble sheet of paper into surreal sculptures that jump, twist, and bloom right before your eyes. His works have zigzagged across the globe, dazzling visitors at fancy exhibitions in Korea and Taiwan. And though he’s rubbed elbows with big brands and even the mighty Netflix, Peter still finds bliss in folding abstract, all-white paper into mesmerizing geometry like some zen origami master from the future.

So, What’s This Magical Book?

Behold: Pop Up Sculptures, a jaw-dropping, page-flipping, art-hugging marvel featuring SIX of Peter’s finest three-dimensional creations. Each piece of abstract white papery goodness blooms from the book like a scene from a fairy tale—with zero fairy dust needed.

  • Standard Edition: A classy hardbound volume with six sculptures, a foreword by pop-up legend David A. Carter, and dual-language magic (English & German). Pages open flat to 11” x 17” so nothing feels cramped—because great art deserves room to shine.
  • Special Edition: Oh, you fancy? Then treat yourself to six more pop-up sculptures in a second volume, all wrapped up in a sleek, laser-etched acrylic slipcase that looks like it came straight from a design museum gift shop. Plus: each copy is signed and numbered by Peter himself, which basically makes you royalty.

Why Kickstarter? Why Now?

Because magic doesn’t fund itself! Peter is calling upon fans, dreamers, and lovers of kinetic paper things to help make this project soar. Through Kickstarter, you can claim your copy, standard or special, and finally hold in your hands the same paper wizardry that once lived only on screens and exhibition pedestals.

The Origin Story (Cue Flashback Music…)

Peter’s paper journey began back in his student days in Dortmund, Germany, where he studied Communication Design but accidentally fell into the 3D-paper-rabbit-hole and never came out. A YouTube video of his sculptures in 2010 went mega-viral, launching him into the Internet’s collective heart and the inboxes of MoMA, Netflix, The Jim Henson Company—you know, just the usual Tuesday stuff.

But Peter says it best himself:

“What’s a video compared to the experience of holding the real thing in your hands?”

Indeed, sir. Indeed.
