MODON Inks Contract For Local Cardboard Products

Majid bin Rafid Al-Arqoubi, CEO of the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON), signed a contract to set up a factory for the local production of cardboard products in the industrial city of Waad Al Shamal. Set on an area of 12,690 square meters, with investments amounting to 14 million riyals, this is the first foreign investment in the new industrial city.

The factory, owned by a Jordanian company and specialized in the production of egg cartons, will operate in compliance with environmental standards approved by MODON, by applying recycling concepts to ensure optimal utilization of paper and cardboard with less wastage and disposing the waste in a scientific manner without harming the environment.

This is the company’s second such factory in the industrial cities of MODON, after the 7,000 square meter Tabuk facility with investments worth 12 million riyals and a production capacity of 25 tonnes per day.

MODON

MODON provides a typical industrial environment that is able to keep pace with all developments in the global manufacturing sector. This is done according to the highest quality standards in terms of a system of advanced environmental services, incentives, and prominent investment options that ensure ease of procedures, reduction in operational costs, and less time and effort for investing partners through its updated strategy. The aim is to enable the industry to unlock the full potential of local content, based on its role in achieving the four enabling objectives of the Kingdom’s National Industry Strategy (NIS), and the initiatives assigned to it as per the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP) in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

MODON had launched the circular economy project, starting with the second industrial city in Dammam, which aims to re-modernize the concept of consumption, reduce the depletion of energy and resources, and shift to reuse, sharing, repair, renewal, remanufacturing, and recycling to eliminate waste. Within the framework of the NIS, the target sectors in Waad Al Shamal include metallurgical industries, fertilizers, oil, glass, non-metallic minerals and building materials, medical supplies, wood and furniture industries, in addition to the manufacture of plastics and chemicals, paper and paper products, clothing and textiles, leather, and food industries.

Waad Al Shamal is strategically located in the northern part of Saudi Arabia, with the Turaif domestic airport and Al Qurayyat passenger railway station located 18 kilometers and 171 kilometers to the west, respectively.

Since 2001, MODON has been responsible for the regulation and promotion of industrial estates and technology zones in Saudi Arabia and to encourage the private sector to become involved in the development, operation, and maintenance of industrial estates. MODON currently supervises 36 industrial cities across the Kingdom, which includes more than 5,000 production facilities under construction. It is also working to develop its investment system and strengthen it with standards set by the Quality of Life Program to keep pace with the aspirations of its partners in the private sector, empower women, and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
