MBRL Initiates Collection Development in UAE Libraries

In conjunction with the UAE Reading Month, Dubai’s iconic Mohammed Bin Rashid Library (MBRL) has launched ‘A World Reads’ initiative, in line with its vision to ignite a passion for reading and knowledge among future generations.

Through the initiative, MBRL called upon local publishers, special-publication institutions, and a select group of authors and writers to donate and share their unused books and publications, which the library will, in turn, distribute them to support and enrich school libraries, readers’ clubs, government departments, and even cafes. As part of the initiative, MBRL will also provide a service for requesting books on demand for other libraries. To attain the service, schools and institutions can contact the library via e-mail: worldreads@mbrl.ae

Aiming to spread knowledge, encourage reading, and empower schools across the UAE, ‘A World Reads’ strives to support and upgrade school libraries with a diverse collection of Arabic and English books for children, youth, and adults. The initiative also provides support for students participating in the Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) besides developing library collections in federal and local government departments, as well as private institutions, universities, and colleges.

To increase awareness on the importance of reading and its positive impact on educational, personal, and social development, a unique collection of Arabic and English books in Braille will be offered to people of determination.

“We at MBRL believe in the importance of providing diverse resources of knowledge to all individuals everywhere to enhance learning and develop society. Reading is a highly effective way to broaden our knowledge and understanding and sharpen our critical thinking. Such initiatives promoting reading and knowledge are crucial to individuals in terms of improving their quality of life, enhancing intellectual and learning competencies, and enabling them to interact and communicate better with their communities. We must, therefore, support and encourage initiatives such as ‘A World Reads’, appreciating their significance as key contributors to building well-educated and developed societies,” says Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazrooei, Board Member, MBRL Foundation.
