Committee For Supporting Private Presses Disburses First Installment

The Committee, which is in charge of the distribution and management of the ‘supporting the private press fund’ in Mauritania has released the first instalment that aims to support private media institutions across the region. The fund will benefit 62 private media organizations, which were selected by the committee.

The first instalment includes forty million ouguiya, which would be transferred to the accounts of various media organizations. The money would be used to pay salary of journalists as well as to improve their working conditions. Six million ouguiya was transferred to qualified news organizations and 42 million were transferred to national printing presses.

The committee is yet to release another 50 million, which will be used to enhance and upgrade the plant and equipment facilities in newspaper presses and other media houses. The committee through their initiative has asked the media houses to be more creative and diversify their field of work.

The committee for the private press support fund includes representatives from the High Authority for press and broadcast media and representatives from the Ministry of Finance and representatives of the ministry of communications and three journalists who represent private presses.
