Heidelberg and PURe for Sustainable Printing Production
German companies Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) and PURe inks Europe GmbH (PURe) have entered into an agreement to make offset printing more sustainable. While Heidelberg, the largest global manufacturer of offset printing presses, is committed to support and guide its customers to more sustainable production solutions, PURe with its range of printing inks follows suit.
Heidelberg will offer these inks under the PURe label, next to its own Saphira consumables that will be part of the PURe package. Customers would also benefit from being offered an individual implementation and transition service for the application of PURe inks.
PURe is a totally new ink system, a groundbreaking innovation, free from fossil carbons for the protection of the atmosphere and from soy, coconut, and palm oil for the protection of tropical rain forests. The ink is also free from mineral oil, with binding agents based on 100% natural substances without chemical modifications or syntheses. PURe completely abstains from the use of photo initiators, metal dryers, and other metal soaps, setting a new benchmark for offset ink sustainability.
“Heidelberg is happy to extend its portfolio with low-migration inks from PURe, which combine the advantages of conventional and UV-drying inks, and enabling our customers to integrate PURe as a system for long term sustainability strategy,” explains Hans Huyghe, Heidelberg’s Vice President, Product Management Consumables.
Supporting Heidelberg’s joint venture, Michael Berz, CEO of PURe Inks says, “We have worked for several years to achieve the highest quality standard we now have for PURe. After joint testing, Heidelberg offers a complete PURe package, a key to the success of this novel technology in Europe.”
