Flint Group Implements Price Hike for NC-containing Products

Print consumables producer Flint Group will increase prices of all its products containing nitrocellulose (NC). The increase will be effective from 1 August 2025, where contracts allow and will vary depending on nitrocellulose content. The Jersey-based company has cited the persistent rise in the cost of raw materials as the main reason for the hike.

Nitrocellulose is a key raw material used in the manufacture of solvent-based inks and coatings, where it is used primarily as a binder. However, NC is also utilised extensively in the defence industry for the production of explosives and propellants. While NC grades vary, recent geopolitical tensions and a renewed global focus on defence investment has rapidly increased demand for NC, leading to supply shortages and significant price increases.

Doug Aldred, Chief Commercial Officer, CEO & President Packaging Inks NA, Flint Group notes, “Despite recent challenges, our primary focus is always to ensure the security of supply for our valued customers. Unfortunately, we are witnessing unprecedented raw material cost increases and further disruption to a supply chain which is already fragile. Our purchasing team is working tirelessly to ensure a stable supply of this key raw material.”
