Saudi, Qatar Sign MoU to Enhance Cultural Cooperation

The cultural ministries of Saudi Arabia and Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse cultural areas. The agreement was ratified during the first meeting of chairpersons of the Qatar-Saudi Coordination Council’s Committee of Culture, Tourism and Entertainment.

The MoU was signed by the Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al-Saud, with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, during his official visit to Qatar to attend the inauguration of the Doha International Book Fair 2023.

The MoU calls for the establishment of joint training progammes, seminars, and workshops on architecture and design, culinary arts, fashion, films, heritage, literature, museums, publishing and translation, theatre and performing arts, and visual arts. It also outlines hosting cultural festivals and exhibitions, exchange of artefacts and artworks, and carrying out joint strategic projects.

The Saudi Culture Minister also expressed his appreciation for inviting Saudi Arabia to be the guest of honour at the international book fair, highlighting the depth of relationship between the two countries and the significance of collaborative cultural cooperation.

The official visit and the agreement are part of the efforts between Saudi Arabia and Qatar to develop areas of cooperation in numerous fields. It also reflects the eagerness of both cultural ministries to promote international cultural exchange as one of the strategic goals in line with Saudi’s Vision 2030 and Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
