Canon’s Female “Trailblazer” to Inspire a Younger Generation

Canon Middle East (CME), a provider of imaging technologies and services has announced the 2nd edition of their “Trailblazer” series where they celebrate changemakers who have challenged stereotypes and altered the face of their industries. Through the “Trailblazer” initiative, Canon continues to profile inspirational individuals who refuse to compromise and have pushed boundaries to re-imagine what is possible. A mandate that is very much in line with Canon’s own progressive outlook that values innovation, vision and boldness at its core, especially with its range of game-changing cameras like the EOS C70, EOS R5 and EOS R6.

Dr. (Eng.) Suaad Alshamsi is the UAE’s first female Emirati aircraft engineer and the latest Canon “Trailblazer”. She defied all odds to emerge victorious as a leading voice for progressive change and the belief that a woman can “have it all”. In additional to making history within the UAE’s aviation industry, she is also a celebrated author and global consultant on international aviation projects. In the candid interview video Dr. (Eng.) Suaad Alshamsi reveals how she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming an aircraft engineer and had to overcome multiple challenges, including the stereotypes that she faced as an Arab woman: “People think the aviation industry is just for men, but can you give me any dictionary or any book that says that a woman cannot be an aeronautical engineer? I wanted to change the mentality of people.”

The campaign was filmed using the new EOS C70 camera, Canon’s first RF Mount Cinema EOS camera – the ultimate cinema camera for professional filmmakers and content creators. The C70 is the smallest and lightest body in the Cinema EOS system, but a true heavyweight when it comes to features and performance. Combining groundbreaking 4K sensor design, high-performance in-body Image Stabilization and intelligent autofocus, the RF mount’s unique attributes have also enabled the use of two truly unique lenses for the campaign.

The RF 24-70mm F2.8L lens: A fast RF zoom lens with the popular 24-70 mm focal length with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, which produces exceptional optical quality. With its 5-stops of image stabilization, it’s great in low light and ideal for capturing subjects where speed and versatility are key. It also enables a change in exposure settings instantly, without taking your eye away from the viewfinder

The RF 85mm F2 lens: Take videography to the next level, with the compact and lightweight RF 85mm F2 lens, which flatters subjects and enables attention to detail. With its short telephoto 85mm focal length, this is an ideal lens for producing elegant results with beautiful soft backgrounds, thanks to a wide f/2 aperture. Offering huge versatility, this macro focus lens can zoom in up to 35 cm, as well as allow the user to discover minute details with the assurance of a 5-stop image stabilization, that can shoot in low light.

Additionally, the campaign is also supplemented by a special Behind The Scenes (BTS) segment that showcases how the video was created and professional tips and tricks.
