Following the resounding success of the 2023 edition, which saw over 3,550 trade visitors flocking from across Ethiopia and neighbouring nations, the organizers are delighted to unveil the 2024 event. Spearheaded by fairtrade Messe, the German trade show specialists, and their Ethiopian partner Prana Events, this premier gathering is set to serve Ethiopia’s vibrant agriculture, food, beverage, plastics, printing, and packaging industries. plastprintpack and agrofood Ethiopia both provide ample opportunities to establish and expand business contacts and to get information about the latest products and innovations. The accompanying conference programme provides the agrifood, plastics, printing, and packaging communities with a variety of interesting, resourceful, and challenging topics that are trending in the industry worldwide, along with solutions.
With exhibitors representing China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Kenya, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, and UK, besides host Ethiopia, the stage is set for another compelling showcase of innovation and collaboration. Exhibits will include packaging and printing materials, plastics raw materials, and their related technologies; agriculture, plant and animal production; food and hospitality equipment; food and beverage process technology; and food ingredients.
The dual events enjoy the strong support from several government and international bodies including Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Agriculture; the embassies of France, Germany, India, Italy, and Turkey; the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ); the Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Turkish Ministry of Trade, among others.
The significance of the dual tradeshows is multi-dimensional. Agriculture is the backbone of Ethiopia’s economy and continues to contribute 33% of GDP. With a population expected to grow to 200 million by 2050 according to the World Bank, Ethiopia has the largest food market in East and Central Africa, with spending in the F&B sector growing steadily, and F&B production being the largest segment of the Ethiopian manufacturing industry. With annual investments in food and beverage processing and packaging technology ranging from 64 million euros to 171 million euros in recent years, Ethiopia is one of East Africa’s largest importers of such technologies. Ethiopia is the second largest importer of plastics in primary form in East and Central Africa, and is one of the two largest importers of plastics technology in East Africa, with imports of 18 million euros in 2022. Besides being one of Africa’s fastest growing importers of printing and paper converting technology, Ethiopia is also one of the biggest importers of packaging technology in East Africa, with imports of 16 million euros in 2022.
