Companies and individuals shortlisted for this year’s Label Industry Global Awards have been announced in three categories, for Environment & Sustainability, Innovation, and Rising Star.
The winners of each category will be announced at the Global Label Reunion Party to be held as a gala evening event on day one of Labelexpo Americas 2022 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois, from 13-15 September, 2022.
The nominees were chosen by an expert Global Awards judging panel which included Editor of Label & Narrow Web Greg Hrinya; Content Director for the Labels Group James Quirk; Etiq&Pack Editor-in-Chief Jean Poncet; Linnea Keen and Lori Campbell, President and Chair of TLMI respectively; and FINAT President Philippe Voet.
Avery Dennison, Flint Group Narrow Web, and S-One Labels & Packaging are the companies shortlisted for the Environmental & Sustainability Award for introducing a new sustainable product or process or demonstrating environmentally acceptable and sustainable working practices in their manufacturing and purchasing operations.
ACTEGA EcoLeaf and ACTEGA Signite as companies with more than 300 employees and Packlock and S-One Labels & Packaging as companies with up to 300 employees are the shortlisted nominees for the Award for Innovation. They were judged based on a variety of criteria including the degree of innovation; the practical impact on the innovator and their clients; economic aspects such as cost, time, and process; environmental aspects including energy efficiency and sustainability; and the overall concept.
Individual nominees shortlisted for the Rising Star Award Stijn Billiet, Tom Schouten, and Virginia (Ginnie) Gandy were judged based on their exceptional contributions to the label industry as well as their leadership qualities and increased levels of responsibility, with a track record reflecting a strong potential for appointment at the highest professional levels. The Rising Star Award was introduced at the Label Industry Global Awards 2019 in Brussels.
Meanwhile, Indian label industry veteran Harveer Sahni received the top honour winning the prestigious R. Stanton Avery Global Achievement Award 2022. Labelexpo Global Series Strategic Director and Chair of the judging panel Andy Thomas-Emans comments, “The judges felt that Harveer Sahni met all the criteria for excellence demanded by the industry’s most prestigious award for an individual’s global contribution to the growth and development of the label industry. His role in building the Indian label industry and then acting as an influential ambassador on the world stage helped the judging panel to come to their decision amongst a field of excellent candidates.”
Supported by Avery Dennison in memory of Stan Avery’s pioneering spirit and values, the award acknowledges an innovation or idea that has helped transform and progress the label industry across the world.
Thanking the judging panel for their serious application in sifting through the large number of nominations received, Thomas-Emans remarks, “The panel was particularly impressed by the quality of entries for the Rising Star Award demonstrating the wealth of young talent now entering and transforming our industry.”
