Sharjah’s Ektifa Partners Tetra Pak for Dairy Packaging

The Sharjah Agriculture and Livestock Production (Ektifa), affiliated with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, has awarded a contract for the installation of the Tetra Top packaging line at the Mleiha dairy farm.

This collaboration involves using the latest technologies in sustainable packaging solutions, which is approved by the company at Mleiha dairy farm, the first of its kind in the UAE for organic dairy production.

A high-level delegation from Ektifa led by Dr. Engineer Khalifa Musabeh Ahmed Alteneiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock in Sharjah, and Niels Hougaard, Managing Director Tetra Pak Arabia Area & Tetra Pak Export, visited Tetra Pak’s production facility in Lund, Sweden, to discover the latest dairy production technologies and sustainable packaging solutions.

The visit highlighted Tetra Pak’s capabilities in sustainable dairy production, including the newest processing technologies and advanced sustainable packaging solutions. Tetra Pak will also provide after-sales support throughout the supply chain. The partnership reflects the efforts of the Sharjah government to establish a fully organic dairy factory that uses carton packaging, contributing to preserving the environment and promoting sustainability.

During the visit, a new agreement was signed for the installation of the Tetra Top packaging line in the Mlieha farm, considered one of the most innovative sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions.

As per the agreement, Tetra Top packaging will be used for all products. This packaging solution combines the convenience of glass containers with the modern design of carton packaging. Additionally, it is light-weight, space-saving, easy to open, carry, drink, and pour. The packages are also suitable for refrigerated products and beverages stored at home or on the go. The packaging of Tetra Top is carton-based, unlike others that are plastic-based.

A second agreement was also signed between the two parties regarding the factory’s equipment and distribution operations. Tetra Pak will supply all the necessary facilities, including steam, air, chilled water, and treatment required for the processing equipment and packaging machines at the Mleiha dairy farm.

“We are pleased with the warm welcome and reception from Tetra Pak team, and we are excited about this partnership with one of the leading companies in the field of food and beverage manufacturing and packaging solutions. Their cutting-edge technologies and dedication to sustainability align with our mission to deliver organic and local dairy products to the citizens of the UAE. This agreement represents an important step for both parties. We are confident that the advanced technological solutions for processing and packaging provided by the company will enable us to achieve greater production efficiency, minimize environmental impact, and ensure superior product quality. Additionally, this is to support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to establish a robust local company focused on organic production, sustainability, and to meet the highest global quality standards,” says Alteneiji.

Tetra Pak’s Hougaard adds, “We are honoured to be the partner chosen by the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (EKTFA) to develop Mleiha dairy farm, which is the first of its kind in UAE, in terms of focusing on organic production and sustainability.

The high-level visit from the Sharjah delegation to our main production facility in Lund is a significant indication of our commitment to working with our partners to exchange advanced technological knowledge in dairy production and adopt sustainable packaging solutions. Tetra Pak has succeeded in establishing a leading and unique position in the manufacturing and packaging solutions sector by offering comprehensive solutions that cover everything from processing to packaging. This ensures that consumers receive fresh products while also considering the importance of reducing environmental impact through sustainable packaging practices.”

The new agreements, concerning the Tetra Top packaging line and provision of necessary technologies for production operations and distribution services in the Mleiha dairy farm, are part of a previous agreement signed in January 2024.
