SEWGA Wins Award for Waste Management & Recycling

Sharjah Electricity, Water & Gas Authority (SEWGA) won the first prize at the state level for the fifth year running for waste management and recycling of printer inks in the ‘institutions’ category, organised annually by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a Dubai-based professional working group devoted to protecting the environment through means of education, action programmes, and community involvement.

SEWGA received the award for its achievement in collecting and recycling 365 ink bottles during a ceremony at the Dubai Knowledge Park organised by the group on the occasion of World Environment Day, under the patronage and presence of HE Engr. Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, member of the Government of Ras Al Khaimah Executive Council, Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation Ras Al Khaimah, and honorary member of EEG. The award is part of the authority’s strategy putting preservation of the environment at the forefront of its priorities and achieving sustainable development.

Manager at the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department of SEWGA Engr. Fatima Ali Asghar confirmed that the authority’s winning of this award came as a culmination of its efforts in the field of preserving the environment and launching various initiatives that contribute to raising the level of cultural and knowledge awareness among members of society about the importance of cooperation and taking all measures that take into account environmental aspects.

Asghar pointed out that protecting the environment is a collective responsibility and it is necessary to consolidate the culture of preserving the environment among all segments of the society and to spread this culture among employees in government agencies, private companies, and society in general.
