Helwan University Wins Seven Awards at Arab StarPack International Competition

The students of the Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University won 7 of 41 awards in the first Arab StarPack International Competition. The awards were distributed at a large ceremony in Beirut, Lebanon,  at the headquarters of the Union of Arab Chambers, followed by an exhibition of all the works of the participating students.

 

More than 1,000 students from 60 universities from 13 Arab countries participated in the competition. The competition was organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and Poverty Reduction UNIDO International and the lebanese packaging center LibanPack, for the best packaging designs. 

 

The competition has three branches. These included structural design is the development of a new or existing design. Another branch was Visual Graphic Design, which involved a development of an existing design. Finally, Save Food was a special activity for agricultural products to propose new ways, designs, and ideas for smart packaging and to prolong its life and validity.

 

The ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries including the Lebanese Minister of Industry Dr. Hussein Haj Hassan and Deputy Prime Minister Saad Hariri; Thomas Schneider, the President of the World Packaging Organization; Cristiano Pascini; the UNIDO Representative; François Paras, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Lebanon; Dr. Fadi El-Gemayel, the President of the Arab Union for Paper, Packaging and Printing Industries, and Ahmed Gaber, the President of the Egyptian Printing and Packaging Industries Chamber.

 

Amira Yassin of the 4th Division of the Industrial Design Department won the first prize of Pan Arab StarPack at the level of the entire Arab world in structural design. In Architectural Design Competition, the winners were Amira Yassin from the 4th Division of Industrial Design, Shaima Massoud from the 4th Division of Industrial Design, and Marwa Mohammed from the 4th Division of Industrial Design.

 

In the Visual Design Competition, the winners were Ahmed Magdy from the second division of the advertising department, Iman Ammar from the 4th Division of printing, publishing and packaging, and Amani Amer from the fourth division of printing, publishing and packaging.
