Brother to Focus on Textile Changing Paradigms at TPS Conf.
Printer and sewing machine manufacturing major Brother will have environmental manager Regina Wilhelm and textile engineer for industrial printing business Maike Joeken give presentations on the changing paradigms in the textile industry at the upcoming TPS Conference in Düsseldorf (15-16 October, 2024). The conference will showcase technology talks and solutions on hardware and workflow from leading industry suppliers.
Most of the current economic and individual practices, including current lifestyles, undermine the prosperity of future generations. Against this background, both Wilhelm and Joeken will zoom in on the relationship between the textile industry and fast fashion, individualism, and sustainability. This relationship is complex, multifaceted, and with various interconnected factors at play. On the one hand, fast fashion often caters to individualistic desires for uniqueness and trendiness.
Simultaneously, there is a growing movement towards sustainability that challenges the conventional environmental and social impact of the industry. It becomes clear that individual choices and industry practices have a great influence in creating a balance between expressing personal style and promoting sustainable and ethical practices.
“Now more than ever, it’s crucial for industry stakeholders to recognise their role in driving positive change,” says Wilhelm. “Our goal is to shed light on how each choice contributes to a larger movement towards sustainability in the textile sector.”
“By understanding the profound connection between personal expression and sustainability, we can create impactful dialogues and solutions that benefit both customers and the planet,” adds Joeken.
This interconnection will be elaborated by focusing on the evolution of the garment industry, consumer behaviour and individualism, social media and influencer culture, the sustainability impact, together with the changing trends in the industrial printing business with a particular focus on water-based pigment inks.
Launched in September 2022, the second edition of the Textile Printing & Sustainability (TPS) Conference will focus on sustainable and innovative practices within the textile industry, aiming to align with the European Green Deal.
The TPS Conference takes a maximally wide angle on the market and technology evolution. The conference covers the entire supply chain, involves manufacturers of products which support the handling of fabrics (pre- and post-treatment), the printing process itself (inks and equipment), as well as printers, value added resellers, and brand owners. From material science, through print systems, to micro-factories, and finishing – TPS brings together all those who drive change and contribute to innovation.
