The UAE-based manufacturer of polyolefins Borouge PLC and Austrian major Borealis – one of the world’s leading providers of advanced and circular polyolefin solutions and a European front-runner in polyolefin recycling – have launched a number of fully recyclable polyolefin solutions, reinforcing their commitment to making significant progress towards the transition to a circular economy.
The circular economy is a production model through which products are manufactured to be consumed and used, and then reused or recycled after the expiry of their shelf life.
Participating in the on-going K 2022, the world’s leading trade fair for the plastics and rubber industries in Düsseldorf, has provided Borouge with an opportunity to showcase its UAE-made solutions on a global scale, in addition to highlighting its successful development path, introducing new sustainable and innovative solutions from polyolefins, and enhancing its role in supporting the transition to a circular economy. Borouge is participating in tandem with the Austrian company under the exhibition theme ‘Innovate, Collaborate, Accelerate’.
Khalfan Al Muhairi, Senior Vice President MEAE, Borouge, says, “Borouge’s entry into the recycling markets reinforces its position as a comprehensive solutions provider for raw and recycled polyolefins. Our participation in K 2022 provides Borouge with a strong platform to showcase our solutions made in the UAE and our innovative capabilities that enable us and our value chain partners to provide sustainable solutions that support circular production and enhance the modern lifestyle.”
In K 2022, Borouge and Borealis have jointly launched a number of single-material and recyclable polyethylene solutions to serve the packaging sector, as these solutions contribute to eliminating the use of multi-material solutions that are not recyclable.
Multi-material solutions are products that contain partly recyclable and part non-recyclable materials, making it extremely difficult to reuse or completely recycle them. The new solutions launched by Borouge and Borealis for the manufacture of bags are characterized by their modern designs and the ability to mechanically recycle after the end of its validity period.
Borouge, through its close partnerships with its value chain partners, has developed one of its new innovative circular solutions for the manufacture of heavy duty cargo bags.
Heavy duty bags are usually designed to perform exceptionally in facilitating and protecting the goods carried in them in various environments during handling and logistics operations. With this new circular solution developed by Borouge, the same heavy duty bag can now be recycled thanks to recyclable materials without affecting the durability and performance of the bags as packaging material. This sustainable solution also has a low carbon footprint, enabling Borouge to achieve its ambitious circular economy goals.
The Emirati company has also announced its expansion in cooperation with a number of companies specialized in recycling, raising the number of its strategic partnerships to seven countries in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions, enabling it to meet the growing needs of its customers, especially brand owners, to obtain reliable supplies of recycled products in local and regional finished product markets.
Driven by its mission to “enhance value through employee efforts and foster a culture of innovation”, Borouge is developing new ways to enhance product durability, introducing new designs that contribute to enhancing reuse and recycling practices and increasing the use of recyclable polyolefins wherever possible across the value chain.
By providing sustainable and cost-effective solutions that are able to meet global challenges, Borouge seeks to provide a comprehensive range of products to commercialize new applications and support the transition to a circular economy, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.
By participating with Borealis in the same exhibition stand, Borouge highlights its pioneering role as one of the most prominent industrial companies in the UAE and a major player in the development of the petrochemical industry in the country, by harnessing its innovative capabilities to provide sustainable, high-quality, and cost-effective solutions from polyolefins used in the manufacture of many of the most sought-after end products.
Borouge PLC was founded in 1988 through a strategic partnership between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis, one of the world’s leading providers of advanced and circular polyolefin solutions.
