Omran Al-Qayeb, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) has signed an agreement with Misrata-based publishing house Dar Al-Shaab at the Ministry’s Tripoli office to enable the printing of university textbooks and scientific journals. The agreement was signed in the presence of officials from the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, the Libyan Academy, various other universities, and a group of scientific writers.
After a hiatus of 14 years, the initial stage will see the printing of around 70 manuscripts prepared by faculty members from Libyan universities. “The printing, publishing, and scientific research will open the door to more university publications and research centres. Currently we are in the second phase of improving higher education. We have formed a team to develop a new local ranking for public and private universities to increase competition among academic institutions and strengthen the concept of educational quality,” says Al-Qayeb.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research published the signing of the agreement and the allocation of budget to print the academic books on its Facebook page.
On 28 May, 2023, the Ministry had assigned the printing of textbooks for the 2023-2024 academic year to 24 Libyan companies after a number of foreign printers failed to deliver in the last academic year.
